Among those who attended Grant's funeral was Founder Edward Giles Irvin. Grant died on Novemin an Indianapolis nursing home. Grant continued to serve Kappa Alpha Psi, serving on the Grand Board of Directors and being named Grand Historian Emeritus of the fraternity. He was a member of various civic and professional organizations, as well as being a member of the Second Baptist Church in Indianapolis. Īfter receiving his degree, Grant practiced dentistry in Indianapolis and, in 1929, married Laura Hammons. In 1920, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from Indiana Dental School (now Indiana University School of Dentistry). In 1915, Grant graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. ![]() Grant remained active in the fraternity, helping to establish the Beta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi at the University of Illinois (now University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign). The fraternity was officially founded on January 5, 1911. There, he met Elder Watson Diggs and the other men with whom he would establish the fraternity of Kappa Alpha Psi. For this reason, province polemarchs are not elected rather, they are hand-picked appointments of the Grand Polemarch and they serve at his pleasure, solely. Decisions made by province polemarchs carry and weight of authority of the Grand Polemarch and are backed by the full faith and credit of the national organization. The fraternity is divided into twelve administrative regions, called provinces, and the representative of the Grand Polemarch in each region is the Province Polemarch. Thereafter their main functions were administrative and legal. By 487/486 BC, polemarchoses no longer had military authority. Eventually military command, however, was transferred to the strategoi ( στρατηγοί) of Ancient Greece. The name suggests that the polemarchos' original function might have been to command an army. The title is derived from polemos, meaning war, and archon, meaning ruler or leader. The term polemarch comes from Ancient Greece. The Grand Polemarch also serves as the fraternity's head of state at gatherings that include heads of other Greek-letter organizations, university officials, business executives, politicians, and community leaders. ![]() The holder of this office serves as the fraternity's national president and chairman of the Grand Board of Directors, which is tasked with managing the affairs of Kappa Alpha Psi. Grand Polemarch is the highest office that can be held by a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.
